I'm gonna lose all credibility here...LOL!

This is not a knock at new people to the hobby at all! The only dumb question is one that is not asked or something like that. Just looking back, being the owner of R2R now, how much I didn't know to how much I have learned now is pretty...intriguing! :p

Anyway the "How long have you been in the hobby" thread got me thinking about my first formal saltwater forum post and it was a thread I started. So here it is!

Oh and why not share your very first forum thread or post!

And my next few threads were not surprising at all! Here are the titles.

1. Lettuce In The Tank??

2. Horseshoe Crab

3. Rusty Algae HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. Nemo Died...Why?

5. Anemone's (how many?)

;Shy:eek:

Emperor 400 filter? Lo and behold brother .... me too!!! Young and innocent ... we are

Uummm ... now lookit where are you right now? Can't beat that for sure ...

@revhtree what I'd really love to read is the story behind how you went from posting on a forum to owning/operating a forum. Have you ever created a thread about that?

My first post here was entering a contest. .. that sounds like me: "Free stuff? OK - I'll sign up."

@revhtree I was just about to ask this. Please tell that story!

This made me go dig up my first post. My biggest concern was not having to scrub rock.

If only I knew then just how many horrible mistakes I would make in those first few months! ;Blackeye

Rev that's so good to think up. what was the pebble that kept rolling and picking up sand yep. searching

My first thread was asking if I could use a 20" PC fixture over a 24" tank. I ended up getting a 24" 50/50 65w PC fixture and actually still have some of the very first mushrooms I got in 2005. Starting with a nano tank meant I didn't have silly posts like "how does my sump work" or "plumbing help" until I upgraded to a big tank the following year.

My first post on marine aquariums was not, in fact, in a forum, but a newsgroup... #rec.aquaria.marine.misc, if I remember right. That would have been on Compuserv... from my Apple][. Yeah, I'm old.

My first marine aquarium forum post was to a forum that has not existed for many years. Can't even recall it's name... local forum, KCMO. Ended up splitting, with most of it's members, including myself, going over to http://kcfishheads.org/... which is also now gone the way of the dodo.

that's my first I think possibly in any forum on the web. I remember reading thekrib.com planted tank chat forum in the 90s but didn't join that I can recall.

Andrew, our pictures came out man :)
I saw the hardprints yesterday, dude, we made it. me and you both got in a fine shot man its perfect. I had sent in cell phone junk by comparative standards...was lucky to get even one, all fine by me~

you know who the person that affected me most was?

Eric Borneman. I couldn't believe he'd take time to chat w me in message about small reefs. in that moment pure motivation was attained. I took his book to each family member at family times and put the book close in and demanded they read some of it so they could see why this was a big deal.

That's pretty funny. My first post was on a different forum. I was in a panic because I found a spaghetti worm and thought it was aiptasia.

you can def link it~ R2R is solid on all fronts w science references. I link to them routinely here to show peroxide work. edit in your thread its fun stuff to see~

Funny, in order to pinpoint my start date I had to go back to aquariumadvice.com and look up my earliest posts. Definitely some basic stuff.

My first post was also on Compuserve!

I recall joining a Compuserve sports chat group and a Compuserve fish chat group - fully expecting the sports group to be a rough and tumble experience with a lot of trash talking. The sports group ended up being wonderful with the nicest bunch of people you could ever imagine. The fish chat group, however, was a rather brutal experience. <lol> I recall posting something about growing macroalgae in my tank and received upwards of 50-75 responses lambasting my complete idiocy. My "favorite" (which I printed and kept for a rather long while) compared my aquarium to a trash-filled trailer park of weeds and broken down automobiles. My wife and I had a pretty good laugh about it all but I would guess it was 15 years before I made another post about my aquarium. ;Joyful

My first forum foray was over on RC in 2005 - wouldn't have the first clue how to find it LOL

I would hate to see what my first forum thread was. What my first question was.
I doubt it could be found due to forum upgrades.
