My name is Joseph but everyone calls me J.J. Been married 15 years and have one son who has CP. I just got into the fish hobby, started in July of this year. I now have a shrimp breeder tank thats 2.6 gal. 2- 20gals and I have a 125gal (that is saltwater but I do not have it set up yet)
I have mollies, shrimp, green tiger barbs, tiger barbs, denison barbs (roselike shark), and snails.
I do not have social media so being able to ask questions has been kinda hard. I am interesting in learning more so I can get my saltwater tank up and running.
I look forward to learning.

So I guess first question......
Canister filter vs hang on the back?
Everyone tells me something different.
Thats one of the things with this hobby, ask 4 people one question and you'll get 6 different answers :)
Canister filters work great if they're properly maintained. They need to be cleaned regularly (usually weekly depended on bioload) otherwise they become nitrate factories. Hang on back are more easily cleaned as they're very accessible, you don't have to disassemble a canister.

JJ, WELCOME!!!
I concur with Crabs. If this is going to be a saltwater with maybe a few LPS's, zoa's, and shrooms, I'd opt for the HOB. Time is precious and life sometimes gets in the way of tank husbandry. Canister filters lend themselves to be more labor-intensive with regards to time. You are more apt to perform more convenient maintenance. Look forward to the 125 build and progression.
