Hi everybody! Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been living in the Huntsville area for a few years now and recently learned that all of the North Alabama reefers made the switch to this site, so I thought I'd sign up and try to motivate myself to move forward with my tanks.
I currently have a 100gal display tank in my living room that I've been lighting with half T-5's and half a regular FW light, propped up by some 2x4s, FOWLR and one small colony of zoo's... not much to look at. I have a sump in my basement along with a 72gal bowfront (hereinafter known as the "tank of death") a 45 rimless cube, a fuge and 4 frag/breeders, which aren't hooked up. So far, only the 100 and 72 are hooked up to the sump.
I've been working on the LEDs for my main display for about a year, after they set in boxes for a year... I've almost got the micro-controller hooked up, still in the testing phase. It's just an Arduino Mega 2560 with an Ethernet Shield, no LCD... I'll be making the interface web based, not that I'm out of town a lot but I'm a computer nerd by trade and I think it's cool to access my stuff remotely.
Historically speaking, I've been in the hobby for about 12 years now but never did anything real spectacular. I had a 90gal Euphyllia tank at one point when I was living in Tampa, FL, which I had started just before Hurricane Charlie, and after being bombarded with several other hurricanes (and power outages) that year, I decided to move to Seattle and had a MUCH smaller place, so I downsized to a nano with a pair of clowns. Then I traveled for a few years and ended up in Memphis, where I started another 40gal all-in-one, sump-in-the-back kinda thing, and again, more power outages with such a small tank made it difficult to keep up, so after moving to Huntsville and finding a house with a basement, I decided to upgrade and take the SPS challenge.
That's about it in a nutshell. I want to thank Tomoko and Harry for inviting me into their homes yesterday and showing me their set-ups. Very nice! You've motivated me to move forward!
Looking forward to meeting more of you soon!
Donnie
