Hi everybody! Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been living in the Huntsville area for a few years now and recently learned that all of the North Alabama reefers made the switch to this site, so I thought I'd sign up and try to motivate myself to move forward with my tanks.

I currently have a 100gal display tank in my living room that I've been lighting with half T-5's and half a regular FW light, propped up by some 2x4s, FOWLR and one small colony of zoo's... not much to look at. I have a sump in my basement along with a 72gal bowfront (hereinafter known as the "tank of death") a 45 rimless cube, a fuge and 4 frag/breeders, which aren't hooked up. So far, only the 100 and 72 are hooked up to the sump.

I've been working on the LEDs for my main display for about a year, after they set in boxes for a year... I've almost got the micro-controller hooked up, still in the testing phase. It's just an Arduino Mega 2560 with an Ethernet Shield, no LCD... I'll be making the interface web based, not that I'm out of town a lot but I'm a computer nerd by trade and I think it's cool to access my stuff remotely.

Historically speaking, I've been in the hobby for about 12 years now but never did anything real spectacular. I had a 90gal Euphyllia tank at one point when I was living in Tampa, FL, which I had started just before Hurricane Charlie, and after being bombarded with several other hurricanes (and power outages) that year, I decided to move to Seattle and had a MUCH smaller place, so I downsized to a nano with a pair of clowns. Then I traveled for a few years and ended up in Memphis, where I started another 40gal all-in-one, sump-in-the-back kinda thing, and again, more power outages with such a small tank made it difficult to keep up, so after moving to Huntsville and finding a house with a basement, I decided to upgrade and take the SPS challenge.

That's about it in a nutshell. I want to thank Tomoko and Harry for inviting me into their homes yesterday and showing me their set-ups. Very nice! You've motivated me to move forward!

Looking forward to meeting more of you soon!

Donnie

Welcome to Reef 2 Reef. With all that experience it seems that your common sense will kick in and you'll have a great setup this time.

Welcome to NARC, Donnie.

It was really nice meeting you yesterday. I had a lot of fun talking with you guys. I hope seeing Harry's awesome LED system helped you a bit.
His system has been evolving over time. It's great to see how it's been coming along.

I hope we can check out Jason and Tammy's shop and the new one ( http://www.reeflifeaquariums.com/ ) in Birmingham together sometime soon.
The Reef Life Aquarium looked very nice when I visited a month or so ago. They had a good selection of fish and corals.
Does anyone know if Manuel (ZaoZao) still has a shop in Culman, too?

Welcome to NARC and R2R. M@ry Ruth and I enjoyed meeting you and Erin yesterday. Good luck with your build and keep everyone posted on your progress.

Thanks! I'm hoping the issue with my lights is something simple, but I've decided to buy a fire extinguisher before proceeding any further, just in case... ;)

Welcome Donnie! Great place here with lots of friendly reefers.

I started about a year ago, and there's no way my tanks would be what they are without the friendly local support this club has given. You can post here without fear of being "jumped on" for not knowing better or trying something new.

Have fun!

After seeing their set-ups, I always feel small and inadequate. It generally motivates me to cry a little...

Welcome!

Now, now, Scott. You have a very nice set-up, too :) Your tank is much smaller and newer, but I like your tank very much. Your cabinet/sump area is really awesome!
