Hello all! I’ve always had an interest in saltwater aquariums but never pulled the trigger on building a tank. I took several semesters of Marine Biology in high school and got scuba certification (open water, nitrox, and advanced) and still never started a tank. I went to USF and my roommate bought a ginormous tank and I helped him put it together. Years later I met the love of my life and had an incredible son. 5 years later we had an incredible daughter, but she had some heart issues. She had open heat surgery at 6 months and it was successful. My son was such a rockstar I decided to finally get a tank and get started. He was so excited and has been very involved in cycling. Unfortunately my daughter had serious complications and after 4 weeks of life support we lost her. It has been unfathomable but we have been strong. This aquarium build has been a staple in our healing and this website has been very informative. Our biocube 32 is doing well. We bought a couple clowns and one died because of tapeworm and stress, but the female is savage! She eats out of my hands and is strong. We are searching for more fish to add to our journey. I’ll keep posting as we grow. I look forward to meeting great people here.

That’s the most heart wrenching intro I’ve seen on this forum. Good luck on your reefing hobby, everyone here is with you.

Marco, I am very sorry to hear of your hardships and I'm very , very sorry for the loss of your daughter. Your family has been through alot and I pray for strength and peace for your family. I struggled through the loss of a loved one several years ago and that pain is impossible to shake. Think of the happy times and the privilege you had of sharing those years with her. It helps...
Aquariums have a way of allowing you to immerse yourself and travel in time. It's a great hobby. Welcome aboard my friend.

I want to welcome you with open arms, God bless you and your beautiful family. I’m really sorry for your pain. I admire your courage to talk and share something so close to the heart.

This hobby is great for many things, it keeps me busy, it’s relaxing and there’s so much information to enjoy. All that information will just build on itself. And it comes one day at a time not all at once. Before you know it you’ll be looking at those big tanks and understand exactly how they operate. You’ll look back at your bio cube like that was just the perfect stepping stone. I had a lot of fun with my bio 29.

Hi Marco. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and the warmest wishes!

If there is anything I can do to assist with your aquarium, please do not hesitate to ask.

Wishing you and your family peace, joy, and happiness with your new aquarium.

Wow, Thank you Marco for sharing such a personal story. It helps to bring thousands of people together who can’t imagine your loss or maybe can. God bless you guys. So looking forward to seeing your family’s new tank.
