Just a general question, once my fallow period is done, I plan on feeding a couple of my fish fresh seafood from the supermarket, shrimp, scallops, etc. Not sure if I’m being paranoid, but is it possible for these types of food to introduce velvet or ich (or anything else) into my display tank? Would freezing them first kill off any parasites? Just want to be sure. Thanks.

It likely wouldn’t add any ich or velvet, but there’s potential for different bacteria.

I think it all depends on your fish immune systems. Check out some of @Paul B ‘s threads. Lots of good info.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of supermarket "fresh" seafood has been previously frozen to kill parasites before hand. Typically <-10 F for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Unless you live on a coast and it's actually fresh never frozen.

I mince mine, use ice cube container to portion it out & freeze.

I do live on the coast, so a lot of what we get is fresh. Thanks for the advice everyone. Going to freeze before I serve for sure.

I was just thinking that egg crate would be good as a mould for freezing.
