Introduction.....

And you get to converse with nice people you would never have had a chance to otherwise......

I'm also into HO trains and usually set up a holiday snowy display scene. I like that hobby because I can put it down for months at a time and then pick it back up whenever I want. Not the case with reefkeeping!

You know, I have seen some very nice model train layouts and that kinda appeals to me. What I would enjoy is the build process. After I got it all built and run the trains for an hour I'd get tired of watching them do the same thing over and over again. At that point I'd either give it up or tear it down and build something else.

Yep, the build process is really fun when modeling trains, and that usually kicks in for me in November, getting ready for the holidays. They are very advanced now with digital command control, you can run multiple trains on the same layout, consist engines together with one address, sounds with doppler affects (like a horn on a train going by), remote uncoupling of cars and various other things that help to keep interest. When my layout is up I control all the engines, switching, lighting and sounds with an app on my IPhone. It's pretty fun to control them from the couch, blowing horns and activating the bells.

Maybe this was why my wife was so positive about moving to the reef hobby!

You can control everything about your reef (that runs on electricity) from your couch with your IPhone.

I noticed some of them have 3 rails and some have 2. What's the difference? I think I'd like the N scale as it would allow me to get more into the same real estate.

Top section is O scale which has 3 rails (middle is power) and is Jacob's trainset along with my wife's collection of Studio56 village pieces she's collected over the years. Bottom is HO. Jacob got quickly bored after the build phase as nothing changes unless we take it apart and change it. Honestly, so did I. This past holiday season was spent working on the tank!

Late comer to the thread but welcome R2R. Hope to get the chance to meet you along with some of the other new folks. Sorry I missed the meeting last Saturday, shows I have not been on here like I should
