Just joined R2R and have been spending most of my time reading the post here. I'm failry new to the hobby even though I started about a year ago. I was given a 55G with stand and jumped in to get a saltwater tank going. I did my sand bed, and about 80lbs of live rock (actually closer to 100), two power heads, a cannister filter, and dreams of the best tank ever. I was then laid off from work and spent the next 6months looking at my crab and snail tank. I started a new job and it was out of town mostly so my family spent the next three months looking a the crab and snail tank waiting to see something new I guess?
Well I finally started adding stuff and for some reason my fish all died. I lost 6 of them and was bummed as to this day dont know why and the LFS said my water was amazing.
Started over and in October of last year my heater went full bore and while I only lost two fish out of the ten I had, it cooked all my corals. Apparently they didn't like the 98deg water.
So I joined a local reef and fish club (INDMAS.org) and started over again.
After three months I'm back on track and while not happy with my aquascapping, my fish and corals are healthy and I'm still learning more and more each day. First thing in the morning, when I get home from work, last thing before bed, I'm doing something with my tank.
I've since added a skimmer, just purchased an apex controller that I can't get running yet (read manual), and two new apollo light kits that I have yet to hang, and planning for my 180G I want badly. This pic is not themost recent as I've since down some farming and moved corals around as wel as the large rock on left but its my work in progress.
