Hi! I have a 40 gallon breeder bare bottom,it will have mostly sps, lps with a few softies. I am looking to add a unique invertebrate or cephalopod, the tank will contain no fish. Open to any suggestions, thank you.

What I don't like about cephalopods is that, for the most part, they don't live very long. Octopus, maybe 3-4 years; cuttlefish, 2-3 years at best. If you don't mind watching them die after a couple years, go for it.

Owning a octopus was a incredible experience.. Mine was unbelievably smart and full of personality, He would dart to the front on his tank greeting me when I came home from work pressing his face against the glass watching my every move as I walked back and forth in the living room but if any other family member came home or entered the room he would just ignore them.. lol. He would pulse crazy colors and patterns depending on his mood, if he was mad the intensity and patterns would almost make you nauseous however if he was happy his colors and patterns would gently pulse reminding you of a purring cat.. I fed him ghost shrimp every day and when I was prepping his dinner he would be just like a dog pacing back and forth across the front of his tank watching me in anticipation. Watching him "hunt" the shrimp was very amusing as he would sneak around the tank hiding behind rocks until he got as close as he could before pouncing on his prey.. I had mine around a year and a half and he was happy and healthy up till the end, I knew they had a short life span but I didn't anticipate getting so attached so it was a very hard loss and I have not had the desire to own another.
