Invertebrate Quarantine

Hey everyone ,

Is there a specific way to quarantine invertebrates or do you just need to have them sit in a qt tank for the 72 to 75 days with sand and food. I have the following invertebrates in my qt tank;
4 tiny hermit crabs
2 anstria snails ? (They have almost like a snorkel poking out of their shell
2 shrimp
1 turbo snail
1 blue tuxedo urchin
1 coca worm.

@Humblefish i know you are great with qt stuff do you have any advice on invertebrate qt tanks?

Any coral/invert with a hard surface can theoretically "host" the tomont (encysted) stage of any external parasite (ich, velvet, etc.) The only way to alleviate this threat is to keep them isolated in a fishless environment for 76 days (fallow period for ich.) I also recommend using a coral dip (ex. Coralrx) before any coral enters your QT.

Below is a pic of my 29 gal "fishless" frag tank. I know @melypr1985 has a nice setup as well hopefully she will share. I place all corals/inverts in here for 76 days before they go into my DT. Just cheap T5 lighting, Koralia powerhead, HOB powerfilter, heater, rock/sand and a frag rack gets the job done.

He tested which types of material trophonts could attach to and tomonts could encyst upon. Apparently only starfish and sea urchins might be safe from ich, velvet, etc.

So where would the coca worm fall in this list and how do i make sure i am feeding it properly?

They have a hard calcareous tube, so a tomont could probably encyst upon that. The calcareous tube most likely requires calcium & alkalinity to grow, so you will want to maintain "reef parameters" in your QT.

Most tubeworms I'm familiar with are filter feeders, so you will probably need to dose phytoplankton and feed liquid organic foods.

Is it necessary to provide rock surface for an invert/coral QT? I've got PVC elbows on a bare bottom now but can pull some rock from my DT sump if necessary.
