I’m about to start adding corals to my display tank soon. Right now I have multiple inverts
4 peppermint shrimp, 1 cleaner shrimp, 2 fire shrimp, 2 tuxedo urchins, 1 long spine urchin, 3 blue leg hermits, and multiple red leg hermits, and a few snails. Are any of these critters not reef safe? I don’t want to add corals so that the other livestock in the tank can have a feast. I’m looking at going with mostly zoas and a monti for now.

They all should be reef safe, the only thing you have to watch for is if you put corals in on the frag plug and don't glue them down, urchins like to pick stuff up and carry it along with them :)

Good point. I call my tuxedos Big and Lil Clepto. Haha! Big Clepto always ends up with the algae clip on his back. So fun to watch them :D

I've always wanted a tuxedo urchin but I've always been concerned about them running off with things. Do you have any regrets with adding them to your system? All of my stuff is glued down but even I've knocked things off cleaning or having my hands in the tank.

Absolutely no regrets. That’s why I got a 2nd one. I had one before I moved my tank and ended up getting the 2nd one a couple months ago. They are hardy and do a great job cleaning the aquarium. They will clean the rock and glass. I’ve never had trouble with them knocking anything over. But they will pick up shells, algae clips, or anything that isn’t glued down. Yesterday one had a red leg hermit riding on his back! ;Smuggrin

That's hilarious! I have a scarlet hermit that can't seem to right herself. When I add my tuxedo she may be going for a ride! Do you have a red or blue tuxedo? Right now it seems the LFS have had trouble getting them in.

They are both blue. The bigger one has red hair tho. I got them both from vivid aquariums. Never had any trouble with their livestock. I recently had a few fish die but that was due to an outbreak of velvet. I’m pretty sure that came from my LFS and not vivid.

My tuxedo is not a problem. My short spine is the one who really likes to carry stuff around. I'm at work or I would post a picture. I've seen her carry feather duster worms (and the worms are doing very well), frags, rubble, algae, shells with and without inhabitants...
