Back in early April I ordered some snails to beef up my cleanup crew. I included some Nerites, despite their reputation for escape, just for good variety. As expected, a few days after placing them into my frag tank (in the garage) I started finding them crawled up onto the lip of the tank, fallen over on to the side of the stand, and eventually on the floor around the tank. 3-4 weeks ago I was working on the frag tank and accidentally kicked one across the garage, it had crawled out and was on the floor. I left it there and yesterday was doing some cleaning up and picked it up and threw it in the trash. Something stopped me and I thought, what the heck, might as well put it in the tank. I plucked it back out of the trash and put it in the sump on a powerhead so I could tell if it moved.

Came home from work today and it was crawling around on the powerhead! This snail sat on my garage floor for 3-4 weeks completely dry, with completely uncontrolled temperatures (we were still swinging pretty low a few weeks ago, and was 95 in there when I got home today).

I’ve been in this hobby a long time but every one in a while something still surprises me! Just figured I would share.

Well done!

One of my nerites climbed out for the millionth time and before I came to its rescue it became a cat toy - I found it in the corner of my bedroom (far far from my tank). I threw it back in and was surprised it was alive!
