IO seaclone 150 protein skimmer

It is ok, but I wouldn't buy another one. There are much better options then that. I had mind on a 29 gallon and did ok but not nearly as good as I would have liked and it was somewhat difficult to keep tuned.

I don't know what the rules are around here for posting links from non sponsor websites so I won't post a link, but if you google eshops psk 75 skimmer you will find them for like $135 shipped to your door. For the extra $20 you are going to get a skimmer that works very well for the cost. If you buy the seaclone, you are going to spend a $100 of something that barely works! And that is giving it some credit.

You can get the sca301 fpr $89 shipped or the 302/303 for $149 shipped.
I have the 302 on my 55 and love it...its an excellent skimmer and you cant beat the price.
The 301 would be ok for a lightly stocked 55. I went with the larger one as I plan to upgrade my tank soon.

Can anyone please explain why the IO seaclone is bad. I've heard good review and bad ones. The only one I've heard no bad about is reef octo. But that too much money, I can't find a skimmer that skims 100g and for a decent price. That will fit behind my tank.
Its junk. Air intake is garbage and the pump doesn't do near its job chewing up the water.
Save another 2 weeks or whatever and get the Reef Octopus BH 100SS

The sea clone may be rated for 100 gallons but I can assure you it can not really handle a 100 gallon tank. There is no way, if you see a protein skimmer that can actually handle a 100 gallon tank next to a sea clone you will see what I mean. It did do decent with my 29 gallon, but I would not put it in anything much larger than that and to be honest it didn't do that good. When I gave the 29 gallon setup to my brother that is the first thing he replaced. I still had to do 5 gallon weekly water changes to keep water clean. There are much better skimmers that are hang in back that are a little more expensive. If you are planning a reef in the 55 I would recommend a different skimmer, as you will learn you need to replace the seaclone and it will be more expensive, an you will have a lot f trouble reselling the seaclone. If you are going fish only, and have small fish it might handle the 55.
The seaclone goes out of tune really easy, salt creep gets in the airline and disrupts the performance, the sponge filter will go bad really quick, the pump isn't the greatest and does not pull enough water for 100 gallons, and if you don't clean it every month it will get a gunk build up and not work at all. Also, everytime I put my hands in the tank the dang thing would flood and have to be retuned. If you properly maintain it, clean it regularly, run a cup of warm RO water through the airline once a week, it might perform ok. But even though the box says 100 gallons, this skimmer is really suitable for up to 30 gallons in my opinion. Also the collection cup is really small and you will be emptying it a lot. It is not a complete waste of money but most other options will probably be better, and you could probably save your money and just do routine water changes and get the same results as the seaclone because it really will not pull much out.
From my personal experience you do not want to go cheap on a skimmer, get a good one to start out with. It is one of your most important pieces of equipment and if you go cheap on it, you will end up spending more money down the long road.

Seaclone is straight garbage $10 bubbler will make more skimate then that junk save more money buy something better I got a 600g rated skimmer on 127g that's a lil to much but I turn it off when tank gets to clean for couple days the point is u need a skimmer rated 2 or 3 times over your water volume
When I set forth today I did not imagine the responses I would get thank u. I've been searching all day keeping in mind the space and location. The eshopps and almost anything else won't fit. I have a little more then 4 in. Too play with. , I'm currently looking for the right tank to build a sump of. Tough because my stand is thin and my friend is gonna give me his old skimmer when he moves yr down line ,so I figure I will buy the cheap seaclone and modify it since its kind of the only one the fits. Thanks everyone and ill let you know if the mods work or if I smash it when I get the new one !
So I got that seaclone. !! Fist thing I did was change the air adjustment valve , then cut inner most riser and riser going up to collection cup ,and I drilled a hike in cup for a drain, I wasn't happy ,, so I wrapped the bottom of the collection cup with plastic wrap , and bam skimmate 4 days I had a cup of the nastiest stuff I've ever seen, smelled like Long Island sound! And I noticeed that I had fairly large bubble. So I modded the impeller with fishing line and bang micro bubbles galore even at the lowest setting! Ill let you know how the next week works out !!
I am surprised that they are still selling seaclones... you would think they would have at least an improved version of it instead of the same ol' piece of junk that they've been selling for years.
