I am familiar with the Randy Holmes article(s) which pertain to iodine and lugols solution. But Iodide (pottasium based) , which is a form of iodine and safer to use I have only found a few references that it promotes color and healing for sorties and some other corals: I do not use a Skimmer but I am curious if anyone has used IODIDE with any noticeable changes with respect to damaged tissue regeneration or improved coloration etc. It would be fantastic to hear all of your opinions on this subject. Thanks. According to the Randy Holmes Farley article I read iodine supplements offer no benefits.
But Seachem seems to believe otherwise.hmmm-.

My LFS told me to dose potassium iodide to help keep shrimps' exoskeletons strong, so they can molt and regenerate. I do have a skimmer.

Seachem sells the product to make money, Randy doesn't. I believe Randy :) Regular water changes will supply all the essential elements needed for a shrimps health.

Initially my knee jerk reaction was the same regarding Seachem, however, this being said one might also consider Seachems vast line of products, many of which are/have been developed using sound research and analysis. And frankly when also taking into account the number of years Seachem has been in business along with their overall reputation in the field of marine biochemistry and the aquarium trade, I think its highly doubtful they would stake their brand reputation on one product. Furthermore a product was has been in continuous production for over a decade, i am not knocking Randy Holmes Farley's contributions to the aquarium trade. But until I see some sound research which proves iodide dosing has absolutely no effect or beneficial factors relating to corals Im not counting on anyones notions that iodide HAS no effect either,. But it certainly is a curious topic .

The question of Iodine additions goes way back. To this day, there is no real proof one way or another since each tank's usage is different and maintenance routines also vary. On top of that, there are many different Iodine species, most of which we can't even test for, so dosage is near impossible to determine precisely.

I've been using an Iodine supplement (Kent) on and off for 30 years, usually when I have a tank with lots of 'Shrooms, but I add just a few drops each week which I currently do for my 12g. I can't prove that the additions are necessary or even beneficial, but small additions have not caused any harm and my Rics seem quite happy (some are 15 years old) :)

Wow, thanks for your response s everyone. I appreciate your answers. I understand the topic is fuzzy with respect to results, but your answers in practical reef husbandry and experiences with iodine and with others in the hobby are what I am going to base my iodine usage on. Right now I am kinda sitting on the fence.
