Iodine or potassium
Want your thoughts or experiences is there a benefit of dosing these i have a manily SPS tank, well and quite a bit of LPS more acans than anything,I would just like your guy's thought on dosing these.Im trying to go to all SPS is there a benefit in dosing these or will it do harm.

I've always been of the thought that if you don't test for it don't dose it so I've never dosed those primarily because they "should" be replenished enough if you do weekly water changes with a quality salt mix...

+1

Potassium may become depleted in a system in which bacterial proliferation is the primary means of nutrient reduction (vodka dosing, zeo, prodibio, etc....) The bacteria use large amounts of K+ in reproduction and metabolism. This may very well deplete levels low enough to have a negative effect on coral health. If that is the case, then you should test for potassium and maintain NSW levels (unfortuantely the tests we currently have avaialable aren't very user friendly or very accurate).

As for iodine, the tests on the market are absolutely useless and you will simply get enough iodine replenished with routine water changes.

The jury is still out, but have noticed a considerable change dosing Lugols the last few weeks.

Iodine is good for dipping infected corals in, and newly fragged corals, but dosing it is not needed. I have never dosed anything besides Calcium and Alk, with weekly water changes. Never needed anything else.

Iodine = I dose it every week with my water changes. Not a huge amount mind you, but enough to supplement the lower level in my salt mix.

potassium = I dose this every three days, however I am running a Zeo based system, and need to supplement. For my system it has made a HUGE difference in my blue corals.

Becarefull with iodine supplementation......there is a very small window between enough and toxic. Iodine is not depleted in your system it stays unless used up by animals in your system or water changes. Always check your other supplements for iodine.......less you can have a dangerous detrimental affect.......like killing everything in your system. It takes very small amounts to keep things healthy.
