Iodine or Iodide dosing?

Hi guys, I was wondering if it was better to dose iodine or Iodide? Or are they basically the same thing?
 
Iodide Is what you want to dose but you need to test before adding.
 
I not personally convinced that dosing iodine in any form is useful for most reef aquaria. I dosed it for years, then stopped and saw no difference. Many folks have had the same experience.

But as Mike indicated, dosing iodide (I-) is preferred as it is more natural in seawater than iodine (I2).
