I was wondering everyone's experience with dosing Iodide vs. Iodine as far as which gets better results or is there no difference when it comes to benefits vs. dangers. I have a supplement of Iodide that says it is non-toxic even at high doses, but I stick to the recommendations and test often. I'm wondering if switching to Lugol's would make any difference at all.I'm not having issues with what I use now, just trying to tweak my vibrance and coloration to the fullest.

I recently provided information on iodine dosing in another thread. Here is the link.

The quick answer is that iodine rapidly converts to iodide and iodate when introduced to the tank water. Lugols solution is a mix of iodine and iodide. It should make little to no difference if you continue to use your iodide or switch to Lugols solution. Keep in mind that iodine solutions are light sensitive and should not be kept in the light.

what happens to iodine when light is on it? does it convert to iodate or iodide in light?

I was looking for the article that you mentioned in part 1 that explains what happens to iodine once it touches reef water... can you link me that article?

I don't know if light is a primary mechanism for breakdown in a reef takk, but it might assist.

This paper discuss I2 in seawater:

Molecular iodine is shown to be unstable in seawater. Eighty-five per cent of 1400 t~g 1 -x of I2-iodine added to an inshore seawater was chemically reduced within the first 24 h of reaction at 30°C. Organic matter present in the seawater is believed to be responsible for this chemical reduction of molecular iodine. The results suggest that at least two reduction reactions proceed simultaneously. The rate of conversion of molecular iodine to iodate and iodide by disproportionation of hypo-iodite was slow in comparison. With higher initial molecular iodine concentrations production of iodate was observed
