#reefsquad,

Can someone explain to me what would be a good concentration mix for dipping corals in seachem iodine? Only gives ratios for adding to water column.

Also what is the purpose or use of dosing into water column? And I'm assuming if you dose it do, you should be testing it? Or you just add every so often?

Thanks

Sorry, I use Kent's Lugols. Don't know if this will help much but here's the Kent's instructions I follow:

Add 1 drop per 25 gallons of aquarium water weekly to sump or area of high water flow. Alternatively, dilute in a cup of aquarium water and administer directly over xenia colonies or soft corals using a pipette or rigid tubing. Do not mix with other supplements outside the aquarium. Directions for Use as a Coral Dip: In a separate bucket, add 40 drops to 1 gallon aquarium water and immerse coral for 10-15 minutes. If you suspect that you have overdosed, add 1 drop of Kent Marine Ammonia Detox to the aquarium per 2 drops of Lugol's that was overdosed. Do not dose with Lugol's again for 24 hours.

@GoVols Is lugols iodine same as seachem iodide? Will it perform same out come if using as a dip?

EDIT

Never mind I'm an idiot. I need seachem reef dip I guess.

Not sure what's in Reef Dip.
Since it says it contains elemental iodine, that would be I2, which has fairly low solubility in water.

Lugol's solution contains a combination of elemental iodine I2 and iodide ion I-.
Iodide I- is much more soluble in water than I2. Combining both gives a much higher iodine concentration in water.

Sounds like Reef Dip also contains a polymer to coat the surface of tissues. If it works as described, it might keep the iodine in place longer.
However I'm not convinced that any of these 'slime coat' products really do anything for very long.

No, your not.

Have you ever got / dog / Front Line Plus into your reef?
Got what? No I'd guess lol

Super annoyed my frogspawn stung a few expensive coral. Now I trying to put out the fires....been dipping in reef primer. Hoping for the best.

I have lugols iodine being delivered tomorrow.

Are all Lugol's the same? Just wondering as my last ATI ICP test came back low iodine and they suggested me adding some. I went back to my previous two tests and they also said my iodine was low so I picked up Brightwell's Lugol's solution to try. ATI although I'm not sure what their supplement for iodine is but suggested 2 doses @ 0.25 ml.

Only reason why I'm asking is you mentioned Kent's Lugol's and Brightwell is using the same name. I'm confused :D

Got what?

......

In your reef... :(

All the different brands of Lugol's are pretty much identical.
'Lugol's solution' has actually been around forever, it's a very old medical product.
Also, the reason it only comes in 30 ml bottles is because larger sizes are federally regulated (can be used in making meth.)

Thanks. I didn't know that.

Lol - also didn't know this but then again maybe...never mind. Was going to throw down a snarky joke but this is probably not the place for it ;) Thanks again. Learned something new today. I didn't associate the name with the medical side let alone meth. Who knew.
