i hate to break it to you but.. the Iphone5 has the same camera as the Iphone4s... none the less, they are both great cameras, but if you had the Iphone 4s and upgraded to the Iphone5, the pic's will be the same :(

Ah but there is a difference! There is an upgrade in the 5's lens, the Sapphire lens - which results in better image quality! Which is even noticeable from the 4s to the 5.

there are a few changes to the camera
Something on the iPhone 5 has to not be new, right? Well, even the rear iSight camera's been tweaked, but not quite as much as other features. It's still an 8-megapixel camera, but there's a new sapphire-crystal lens, and improved hardware enabling features like dynamic low-lighting adjustment, image stabilization on the 1080p video camera, and the capability to take still shots while shooting video.

Haha! Fair enough! My 20k bulb throws some crazy blues into the works.. I'm stoked about it anyways.. Hell it's a phone camera!

disagree. your comparing a photo of the large acan colony to that of a small frag. one of the most difficult things camera phones struggle with is macro shots. i believe the original poster is showing the amount of detail on a small frag.

A camera in a phone is just that... A phone with a camera feature. It is not going to EVER match the quality of a good point and shoot camera, let alone a DSLR with macro lens. They are great for those "I'm glad I had a camera with me" moments but any real quality images you need a dedicated camera with good sensor and lens.

Not knocking the photos themselves as they look good for a phone camera, but my point and shoot I got back in 2003 or 2004 will blow it out of the water and it's just 5 MP...

One thing I see though is that if you took these directly out of the phone, the color representation is actually pretty good. Looks like the software on the iPhone can handle the white balance pretty well. That better than many phone cameras I have seen with the high blue lights we all use. You could say it's better than some of the cheaper point and shoots too if the white balance isn't caught correctly.

all i was saying is that there is no comparison between a camera phone and a macro lens.here's a pic of a small frag taken with my phone.

I don't know anything about cameras, so please forgive me this is an honest question,

How or why would a older 5 megapixel point n shoot be better than the Iphone camera? Is it the "processing" that the point n shoot does? Honestly...I have an old (quite old) 5 megapixel point n shoot, I don't think its taking better pics than my iphone, just from my experience (Iphone is 8 megapixel).

The nicest thing about the Iphone camera is the video capability, the video quality is awesome.

Either way...I'm dying to get a DSLR.

The size of the lens and sensor in an older camera will be larger and have a better ability to resolve data then a TINY sensor, shooting through a TINY lens in a camera phone.

MP is all marketing, well anything over 8MP is in my opinion. Bigger numbers = higher prices, and 90% of the people you show images to, can't tell the difference between a 6, 8, 12, and 22MP shot. Heck, some people in a blind study had ranked the 22MP images the WORST of the bunch. (This study was done when the Canon 1Ds Mark II came out, and results from Digital Grin Photography Forum - Powered by vBulletin)

I'd get the macro lens if I were you.
