Irma, RO/DI water and getting prepped

Sitting here in the Orlando area waiting to see what's happening with this storm. We are pretty ahead of the game as far as a generator, food, batteries etc. my one thought was if we get a major hit here and systems are down for an extended period, can I use my RO/DI unit to clean the tap water and make it clean enough for consumption? Obviously I would bypass the DI of the unit, but if there is a "water warning" will a RO unit clean the water enough?

The Ro/Di will remove anything of concern coming in with the tap water, but doesn't ensure there are not bacteria living downstream of the RO membrane that might be problematic. So if it has not been sanitized, that could be a concern.

You can drink RO water. I have a Brute trash can full of the stuff and I will use that for drinking if need be. I have been through 4 hurricanes. I have lost power but I have not lost water. I have heard that RODI water is too pure for human consumption for the long term. I am not sure if that is valid or not. But it sure beats the heck out of drinking water that might be contaminated.
