I like to run my phosphate at .03-.05, it also depends on what you are testing your PO4 levels with??

The red sea kit.

Tank has been up and running for 5 months and I have not seen any new coralline algea on the dry rock. Any ideas on how to promote this?

All my other levels are spot on.

I run gfo and carbon in my canister filter to combat phos. Mine is usually around .25 and I have a ton of coralline algae. It takes time for it to start up. Make sure your Ca, Mg, Alk levels are up also. Hope this helps

Use Purple Up <-- just kidding

Coraline needs light, calcium, and magnesium to grow. Make sure those are at sufficient levels as well. You can also try dosing kalk as a cheaper solution to increase calcium.

The red sea phosphate tests will always give you a false reading of .08 even if it's truly lower than .08.

really? I just used it too and mine was in between numbers, I guess-stamated it at .05. I wonder if its right

The Hanna Phosphate Checker is one of my best purchases. Most Phosphate test kits are $20-40 and trying to read some shade of blue is very difficult. The Hanna gives you an exact number, and I;ll admit that I have no idea how accurate it is scientifically (most seem to think its fairly accurate), it does give you consistency (usually) and ease of use.

For $50 it has been a much easier way for me to determine phosphate levels.
