Is a 120 GALLON Aqueon Rimless conversion possible?

Hey guys, is it possible to remove rim and brace for 120 gallon Aqueon tank?

I would not, rimless tanks use thicker glass and more silicon to build the tanks. I would personally not feel comfortable in converting a tank that large to a rimless one

Tanks with a brace and rimless tanks are made with different glass thickness. The thicker glass found on rimless tanks allows for the tank to withstand the pressure of the water. Removing the brace on a tank and using it in a way that wasn't intended will undoubtably cause structure failure in time.

I just got a 120 gallon Planet Aquarium rimless. It is made out of1/2 inch glass and it is rock solid. What size glass is yours?

I'm not really sure how thick it is. I would have to measure it. Planet Aquariums ?? Never heard of them. Is it a custom tank ? How much did you pay for it? @rcpalmer1

There is no point in measuring it, tanks with rims and braces usually have glass that is very thin. I would bet money that the tank would break and flood whatever room you have it in. If you want a rimmed tank, buy one otherwise you are flirting with disaster

@Shep I wasn't measuring it to see if I could still do it. I only said it because @rcpalmer1 asked me how thick the glass was that's all. I appreciate the advise and I also value it. If you guys say it's a bad idea, then I won't even risk it. Thanks for the help. I really do appreciate it. Any recommendations on a good company for a thick glass 120 gallon rimless tank??

I will say the quality stands out. I owned a glass shop for 13 years. The polished edges and perfect beads was noticeable from 10ft away. Up close it just gets better.

You could look at adding a euro brace. It could provide the same support the trim does.
