Is a "Kiss" Reef possible ?

I’m a firm believer in the KISS method, but I don’t think I could go without having some type of failsafe… aka controller. Not a huge fan of all the add ons and unnecessary stuff.

Some great advice here! But in the end every tank is different from size, equipment, bacterial population, live stock, etc. . I see more people throw in the towel in this hobby because they try to bend their tank to what they want ( I want a puffer, 2 tangs, some sps corals and a large leather in my new 90gal!) and not the other way around. Once you’ve figured out what your tank can support, based on your lighting, filtration, bacterial population, nutrient export methods, and the amount of time your willing to put into daily maintenance then you can definitely have a KISS tank. It took years for me to finally get my tank to find it’s sweet spot and for me to have it pretty much on autopilot with minimal equipment.

Fairly new 65g with a canister, power heads and a skimmer that run all day. The lights are fancy-ish (RL50s). Don’t really test very often except for salinity every now and then. Water changes are infrequent. I top off every morning with RO and feed 2-3x a day (light in the morning and/or evening, heavy around lunch). No real problems thus far. Corals are growing and look happy, unless I have to mess with them. Nem is happy. Fish are good. Why mess with it if it is working. GSP and Kenya tree are a little peeved in this photo. Lol
