I have a average amount of algae in my tank. Not bad at all. But I want to up the clean up crew to help keep the algae at bay. I have a 32 gallon tank and a decent amount of rocks. I currently have about 12 snails and 5 hermit crabs and a sand sifting star fish. I want to add in about 5 more snails and 5 more hermit crabs. How many snails is to many snails? What’s you’re clean up crew like and what has/haven’t worked for you? Thanks!

It would be nice to know what types of snails you have to evaluate your clean up crew properly, but I'd say you wouldn't have a large clean up crew if you added the extra hermit crabs. I personally keep my tank slightly dirty on purpose because I enjoy the clean up crew more than the fish. A large clean up crew only becomes a problem if you have to supplement your diet very often, that is if your goal is to have a spotless tank like most people want. Otherwise, I'd say as long as they have enough food to eat in the tank already then they are fine. The amount of snails you need is largely variable on the size of your tank, it's bioload, and your feeding habits.
