I run several tanks for many years, with and without skimmers, most of the time without skimmers. Skimmers are mainly beneficial for tanks with high fish load. For nano tanks where you can do big water changes it is not necessary in my eyes. A skimmer mainly removes organics with a bit of nutrients and it does a good job in aeration.

I have a Deltec MCE600 in a 100 gallons cube and it doesn't do much for the tank, because I have a small bioload.

If you don't want a skimmer or can't afford one ide get a marineland 350 biowheel for a tank that size. I run a biowheel on my with a decent fish load and the sps, lps and zoas all grow fine. You just need to replace the filters every 2 to 3 week depending on how messy tour tank is

You can waite a bit But the investment is worth everything in the long run
i recommend the Tunze 9004 DC because I've tried all of them and Tunze works great for that size and simple operations.
How do you put it in the nuvo 40
