Is a reef tank ever actually finished?

A setup is complete when....

  • It's looking how I initially envisioned

  • It's full up on corals and you just enjoy it everyday

  • The initial goals for the system have been met

  • A setup is never finished

  • Other, response in comments

Well, interesting. I was actually at the state of "finished". Actually, it was just a time where I was not adding any items and just watching and enjoying the tank most of the time. Just clean the glass and equipment here and there are that's it. Lasted a couple years actually. (Now I had other tanks to keep fiddling with and buying stuff for to keep occupied.)

Then, it began to leak. Just a bit. And a bit more. So, I decided to break down and get a new tank. Custom acrylic to replace it. And, since I was replacing it, change it up too. This happened as all did not go well for the transfer (taking two and a half weeks instead of days) and I lost a ton of corals and eventually all my fish. Heartbreaking time.

So, it was like starting over.

Will it ever be done, nope. Could it, nope. I will get to a point of enjoyment totally, but will still need to fiddle with equipment and keep maintenance. Maybe not add animals, but, that is what new tanks are for, right???

I suppose it will be finished when I have no interest in putting new things in it. That hasnt happened yet
