is Algae enough to sustain hermit crabs?

So I am looking to add a couple hermits to my 14 gallon. Now I know they are omnivores, but I don't have any fish in my tank, which means half of the stuff they would normally eat just isn't there. Is the algae and micro critters of the tank enough to keep a couple hermits fed?

Yes, should be fine as long as there is a good amount of algae. Kept some in my 13.5 without fish for months.

How far are you into your cycle? Did you use cycled live rock or dry base rock? You can always supplement every few days with some small amount of mysis or nori if you're concerned.

Tank has been setup for about 2-3 months

Its more that that is what I want them for. I get very little algae in my tank, but diatoms all the time! I'm adding a power head this weekend, so hopefully having more water movement will help keep them in check

Get a sand sifting conch snail. Mine keeps my sand pristine
