Is it hard to setup an apex or Neptune system?
Did someone have to help u setup yours?
What was the hardest part?
Did anyone just give up and get rid of it because they couldn’t figure out how to use it?
Would u pay someone to set it up for u?

Honestly I thought it hard a well and seemed complicated. But there is a card inside the box to send you to the website for a total guide and a walk through to help you out.

Pratice and try and edit some really can get it handy and easy in the end. Just need to ask lots of questions at the beginning ha

Was it helpful?

If you follow the Getting Started guides carefully, it's pretty easy. Many people just try to wing it and end up making things more complicated by having to undo the things they did wrong.

With the latest release of the Fusion app for IOS, they've really streamlined the setup. So if you have an iPhone or iPad, I highly recommend using that to do the initial setup because it's far fewer steps than using a computer or an Android device.

Once you have the basics set up, read through my 8-part Apex Programming Tutorial series. This will help you understand the programming techniques. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/neptune-apex-programming-tutorials.700483/

fairly easy. Hardest part is calibrating probes accurately. I have a program for my 2x tunze streams where they alternate flow and then both go off and then both go on, before alternating again.

I was hesitant to order one because I’m border line an idiot when it come to anything electronic. I have to get my kids to turn the dang tv on the way my wife has everything setup! But setting up my Apex was easy just follow the tutorials and you’ll be fine ..The advanced programming I’d never attempt but the easy on/off turn on/off if this or that happens I can’t imagine doing with out at this point .

I thought it was easy but I am in IT.........if I handed it to my inlaws and asked them to figure it out, they would have no chance.

How many of u who replied have been able to setup the advanced options and get the full potential out of their apex system?

The higher your IQ is above 110, the easier it is to get operational.

It’s been several years since I set mine up, and some of the user interface things have changed since then. However when I replaced my classic system with the “new” 2016 version (after a lightning strike) I didn’t find it any easier and in fact had some issues that I could never resolve and they still exist to this day. When I first set it up I was gung ho and bought a bunch of modules for various things and honestly now I run a very basic setup with it because I don’t entirely trust it anymore and have reverted more to my own methodologies for taking care of my tank. That being said, I think my experience isn’t the norm, but it is my honest experience. like it or lump it, it is what it is. If I was going to do it all over I probably would go a different route. Ultimately though it does what I want it to these days (which is basically turn on and off outlets and not much else).

It’s daunting for about the first 10 minutes, then you get the hang of it. The “ah ha! Moment came when I googled how to do something specific and had to use the advanced tab. Then you can see how many possibilities there are.

If you can’t figure it out then google what you’re trying to do. BRS has solid setup videos, and someone out there has been trying to do the same setting as you.

It will take a half a day depending on your setup if you prep and read beforehand. You can then tweak as you go.

Raises hand.

I have two a trio of Cor pumps 2 for returns and one for the skimmer. Trifecta of redundancy because I don't need the skimmer per say and can swap out if something was to happen to the returns. Thanks to the same connection unions. Anyway the two return pumps of mine each connect to a 1" sea swirl on left/right side of tank. I wanted to simulate high and low tide flow directions...

At first I just used the wizard to set 4 or 5 low to high flow points and the other reversed. This worked great but created a cross or intersection that sort of messed up my sumps water height due to flow and kicked off the ATO a bit too much. Then I was using virtual outlets to tell the ATO when to go on/off, etc. That was a bit much. Now I'm using a virtual outlet, called it tide, and base the return pump to be on/off based on the outlet status and set the other to be at the lower setting.

Not the most complicated by any means but there are some hidden nuggets in there than you can do some interesting things.

Edit: To the OP - hard / difficult is subjective. As a few said above the card and get started link at Neptune will make it pretty straight forward. I would agree that S.G and Temp probe will be the most trouble you will have. Everything else is more or less connect in what order such as A, B, C, and so on.

Simple control of pumps, outlets, are pretty simple via a wizard or task. They are also making improvements as a few of us have seen. The Trident users are starting to see the new instructions and imbedded videos that tie to tasks. Makes it down right fool proof now.
