So my dad has recently become quite intrigued and invested in my 20g reef, in which i have film algae. I didnt know what to do to get rid of it: I would scrape it off, but it would come back a few days later. So my dad has been worried and wants to eliminate the algae so I can have one of those beautifully clean display tanks. So I've been doing some research, and I've learned that one of my favorite fish actually eats film algae, the bicolor blenny. So would this be a good idea to buy one to help me with algae control? Is there a different fish I could add? #reefsquad

Big ups to you all

What other fish are in the tank, blennys are generally peaceful but will fight with other blennys

I never observed mine and slime algae, but it may be possible.

I just started my 32 gal biocube not long ago. I also have that on my tank glass, I use mag float glass cleaner, 2 turbo snails and 2 trochus snails they do a good job at keeping it clean with using the mag float a few times a week. From the research I have done that blennies will keep it cleaned off the rock work not so much the glass. I am sure more of the seasoned reefers can give better insight on this.
Happy Reefing

Yeah I do :
You could add a blenny, but i would not expect it to solve your algae proplem. Do you have a clean up crew?
Cleaner Shrimp, Emerald Crab, 4 hermits, 4 margarita snails, but only the snail eat algae off the glass but theyre so small and dont really do anything

I'm new, but I have a bicolor blenny. He is awesome. He acts like a dog. I come in at 3pm everyday and he start wagging his body and going in and out of his little hole. He so excited to be fed. With that said, the only thing he ever bit on a rock was a zoa I put too close to his hole. He looked right at me and nipped it. He never touched the algae in my tank, including the Ulva sea lettuce growing right by the spot where he hangs out during the day.
All fish are different though. I am sure there are some bicolor blennies out there that eat algae all day long.

Blennies get along with Clowns... you should be OK. But I don't think it will solve your algae issue.

Invest in different types of snails...astraea are hardy and eat anything... and they eat a lot.

At best, you will end up with film algae that has little bite marks in it... they wont completely clean the glass (much like snails). Film algae is usually better controlled by reducing nutrients (filtration, filtration, and more filtration). Products like Vibrant are also pretty good at getting rid of algae, but can also have other unintended effects on your tank inhabitants.

They will eat it where ever they find it. Which means they're good at rearranging your scape and will even carry loose frags around as decorations

good to know but will the spines on the urchin hurt any corals? I have a small bubble coral in the tank and its really fragile
