I used to be able to walk into any Petco and get a bottle of Biospira when I'm starting a QT or otherwise.

I haven't seen it for months. It still shows up on IO's site.

I was wondering that myself. All the online sites I checked are also out of stock.

I'm not sure, but as an alternative I've been using Fritz Zyme 9 - It was about $35 a gallon last time I purchased. I see price has jumped.

Fritz Turbo Start is a good substitute. Dr Tim’s can also be used. All other products by their description seem like mixtures of all sorts. Not sure what’s going on with those products.

It is still out of stock almost everywhere. Must be discontinued

Petco and amazon have had it back in stock for maybe 6 months now or so but only the small bottle. I have yet to see the large bottle back on shelves online or otherwise. Petco online is strange as it's shown "clearance" the whole time and not available for pick up in stores but most of the stores in my area have it on the shelf. So who knows what the heck is going on with it. On the petco corporate side I think they are just trying to push their own line hard as well as the fluval brand. Local managers probably insist on getting it because it's been around forever and people know the brand.

It shows out of stock and unavailable on both Amazon and Petco right now as far as I can see. I was in the Petco near me a couple of weeks ago and they did not have it.

I picked some up off Amazon back in December, set to expire JAN ‘25, haven’t seen any in stock since.

This was rebranded years ago
I need a minute to dig up info

The formula or product line was sold and it’s still made sale way but different company

I might be confused but I’m finding things that support I’m not completely wrong. But my statement may have been true at one time and no longer accurate

And attachment

And for the record when I used it and couldn’t find it years ago that’s when i found out it was now safe start.

But in research now that seems to only be for the fw strain

So maybe I’m confused because I do keep fw also

Buy out
Spectrum Brands bought over Marineland Labs in late 2006 and shut the California facility down and merged it with Tetra. Sprectrum moved the Bio-Spira production to the Tetra facility in Melle Germany. Safestart uses the same patent (EP1282688) as BIO-Spira.

That makes sense, I did see Tetra Safe Start at Petco. Bad idea to rebrand it. I don't think the Tetra name inspires any level of confidence in the saltwater community. I don't know about everyone else, but I associate it with cheap low quality fresh water products.

Fritz Turbo is great, it's just the shipping that's a pain because it has to stay cold.

This post is from 2008. I am positive that I bought it in early 2023.

The post from 2017 references the stuff from 10 years prior. Maybe they are doing another brand shuffle because I can’t find it anywhere

Do we have contacts for any of these brands on the forum ?
