My daughter bought an older 14 NUVO Fusion Peninsula display from a LFS (well I bought it because she really wanted one and I saw the opportunity). She is cycling it (about three weeks now) and wants to take her time (says she is in no rush). She doesn't have a light or skimmer and I was thinking it would be a great Christmas present (she uses my salt, RODI system and test equipment). I have never been through black Friday sales for reefing before. Are black Friday deals for lights the way to go ? Are other sales sometime just as good.

I know its a bit subjective but was looking for tips.

Thanks

Depends on what light you are wanting. For some of the vendors on here that sell their own branded led lights, it is the only time of the year they will run a good sale on their lights. For the name brand lights they can have a special sale during the year such as a MACNA, but BF is usually one of the better sales. Check the list on Premium Aquatics, they show when the sale is happening for different brands. Some are already going on and some will not happen until BF. Just realize most of these are MAP, so all the stores will most likely be running the same special.

Wouldn't hurt to wait for black Friday to see what sale is available since it's next week...

IMO, I don't think you'll need a protein skimmer for such a small tank...

Most of the big manufacturers are on MAP pricing, and ime the discount they give is similar to the 10-20% off you see occasionally on sites different times during the year. Check out open boxes on BRS and saltwateraquarium.com. Usually its just a customer opens box realizes its now what they needed and returns. So get a brand new light at a good discount. Second no skimmer, i have yet to use a nano skimmer that was worked better than just doing a water change on such a small system. Save the money and get an autoaqua aws and now have all you need if ever need for nutrients control an auto topoff and replacing alk and cal. all for the same price as a tunze ozmalator.
