Is black glass aquarium safe?

Got a new 600L tank with an external weir.

The makers of the tank put black acrylic over the weir silicone marks but it glows a red/brown colour under UV.

With 4 Radion XR15 Pros shining on it, it looks odd to the rest of the tank back.

I don’t like coraline all over the back, I think it distracts from the corals, so they proposed we try some black glass instead.

Thoughts?

Noticed some odd skimming today. The protein skimmer won’t make bubbles properly. This isn’t down to the little sample of black glass I put in the tank is it?

I want to see the colour under the moon light at night. Turns out it’s better than the acrylic and actually looks black. Not red/brown.

There are oils left from manufacturing on the acrylic, so that could make the skimmer act up

I see your point but the Acrylic has been in the tank since it started. About 8 weeks. Can’t see how it’s playing up now.

I’m more interested in the leechables from black glass.

My back panel on my custom tank is made with black glass, I don't see there being any issues, although the tank is still currently dry so I cannot say for sure.

But I don't see a reputable tank maker using it if it was known to cause any issues.

I think this is the position many people take. We all think it’s ok but no one is really sure.
