Right now I only have 2 clowns in my nano after cycling a few weeks ago. I intend to keep it this way for another 3 months or so before I introduce some soft corals. If I only have a fish only set up for now, how important is dKH and do I need to worry about keeping it at a level above 8?

Appreciate the help.

Alkalinity (and Calcium, etc) are important for snails and crabs to build their shells, and will also affect coralline algae growth, but, no, I don't think you need to keep it above 8 in a tank without coral.

No but a stable alkalinity will support a good ph.

Thanks - I wondering what's causing the dKH to drop by over 1+ in just 24 hours. I had dosed prior to and dkh was at 8.5, and now it's 7.0.

It's a fish only tank with base rock and caribsea aragonite substrate.
