I have a 150 gallon aquarium and there was a lot of space beneath the stand hence I wanted to put a 130 gallon aquarium down there and make a inbuilt sump in that 130 gallon tank which mostly accomodates about a filter sock, skimmer and the return pump but if I had to push it just maybe some polish sponge for extra clarity

I wanted to make the 130 gallon aquarium a macroalgae tank with live rock and some gracilaria species such as the red and green gracilaria with some more species (that's if I find some more varieties of algae)

So the total volume will be about 270 or 260 gallons if you include the sand and rocks

Is a sump and filter sock enough?

So you want to run a refugium under your tank for extra filtration - is that the intent?
As for if filter socks and a skimmer are enough, that would depend on if the skimmer is properly sized and your bioload - what fish are you planning for? for the filter socks (again based on bioload) you would want to change them regularly.
The algae and additional live rock would also increase your overall filtration.

My 150 gallon has one greasy grouper which is about 10 inches and about a 5 to 6 inch desjardini tang with 2 medium sized eels

As for the 130 gallon, i plan to get another medium sized eel or any other eel which is available and some other smaller fishes

So I would say there's a heavy bioload the skimmer has a 1400lph pump and the sock filter being 1 micron

I'd throw quality bituminous or rox carbon into the mix. Also, a 1 micron filter sock will clog so quickly that I would use something with a different micron size.

Oh it takes about 2 to 3 days to clock fully would that be enough? I usually do change it after 2 or 3 days

Definitely not gonna forget carbon i still do have some good quality carbon laying around!

I can't imagine a 1 micron sock lasting a full day. Most people use something like a 200 micron felt filter sock.

285g total with 16 fish 9 of them fairly large tangs. I run socks and no skimmer but have an ATS running. Another tank socks and no skimmer and one more with a roller and no skimmer. So yes you can get by with socks and skimmer I would say
Thank you for the reassurance!

I already have about 6 of those but I'll try and see what to do, i might make it go through the 200 micron sock first and then the 1 micron one which I am sure would last longer

But I do want to remove the socks faster since keeping them longer would make the nutrients dissolve in them

Thank you for the reassurance!
YW just some extra reassurance ;)

If you’re changing your socks every couple of days, socks and a skimmer will be just fine.

I agree with running some activated carbon too. That’s plenty of filtration for most tanks.

You can never have enough filtration when stocking a FOWLR tank. As fish grow they produce more waste thus filtration needs to consume to evolve and include refrugium as well as more mechanic filtration.
