Is Fritz Salt still good?

I need to switch to salt soon…. Are they still any good?

All salt can be good for different uses, it would be best to see what kind of tank you are running and what your ideal parameters are for keeping that type of tank. Than which ever salt best fits those parameters, most importantly alkalinity, is probably the best salt for your use.

I use the Red box (high alk) for water changes and blue box (normal alk) for tank set-ups. They both work great imo, but if you are mixing water in large containers they can get pretty nasty. I usually mix a 90g vat 2x a day of salt, then I end up needing to clean all the nasty build up every 3-4 weeks. Have been having great success using both . ....if you go this route and are mixing in vats, highly recommend using citric acid and letting it soak for an hour or two. just make sure you rinse VERY well.

I use Fritz RPM, mixes quick and no residue. I only do 4 gallons a week.

Just used the low alk bucket the other day. First time. I was blown away by how quickly it mixed versus everything else I use. Their parameters also happen to be my tank targets. It works out nicely.

Can't wait to see how it treats my stuff. I suspect like all the other salts do. Just fine.

I think one of the reasons you might hear that it mixes cleanly for some people and leaves a residue for other people is that it mixes very quickly and cleanly, but if I don't use the water relatively quickly (same or next day), it develops a weird (almost waxy?) residue in my mixing container. This is with a heater and a circulating pump running.

Yeah can attest that if you use the water right away no residue. After a few days of sitting you get a build up on the container walls that flakes off.

I’ve been using rpm blue for about a year and haven’t had any problems outside of cleaning my salt container here and there.

I've only ever used RPM Blue as well. No complaints at all. Longest I let it sit os over night before I used it so I cant say anything on residue. I use it because its carried by my LRS so it's easy and convenient to get.

I use regular Fritz RPM also and am happy with it. (I like the parameters "as is")

Along the lines of what others have noted:
I mix (unheated but in the house) overnight and use the next afternoon.

Once I had something come up where I left it mixing with a heater for a few days and it seemed to get a slight tinge of color and there was some waxy/oily film because I think it was mixing too warm for too long.
...but I used it anyway with no obvious problems

Thanks for all commented. I guess my game plan is to mix for couple of hours before water changes. I also plan on adding another jebao in the 35g brute see if that helps. I snagged 8 boxes today from a local guy who offered a great deal.

Nice, I think it’ll treat you well. I’ve been getting boxes for 60 bucks and been pretty happy with that price

Easy, you just fill out your name, email address, and lot number on the form near the middle of this page and they email you a PDF of the multiple tests on different random boxes from that lot number:

*not instantaneous but I've done it a couple/few times out of curiosity and think the report showed up within a business day or two (if I remember correctly)

That's what I use. It is fairly cheap and mixes quickly and easily.
