Is he a a goner

Update: today he is still very much alive. The spot on his foot appears to be getting smaller. He was puffed up earlier so I took the chance to see if he was hungry so I cut up a piece of lmb fillet maybe half inch x 1/4 inch and shut the pumps off and gave it too him. He stuck to it (and me) and seemed a lot more sticky then has been. Checked some 4 hours later and the piece was barely hanging out of his mouth. Maybe a little too large of a piece but hey... what the he** right?
He still hasn’t spit it out and has retracted himself entirely around the piece of food. And still has 3 tenticals fully extended into the water column
Excuse the stretched look it’s the acrylic

API ammonia test kits are notorious for being inaccurate.
I had one measure 2ppm of ammonia as 0. Multiple times. Confirmed it with a few other test kits 0 Ammonia. You can use API for uh.. I honestly don't know. Maybe a book end?

Tested fine on a control test

The strip lights are what you're using? If so those aren't ecotech and they might not be enough lighting still.
I added a fluorescent today over the tank a t8 aqueon till I can afford to get an all in one lighting with timer and run in and out

Really thinking he either wants light or flow. I'm betting light. Someone that has more experience with nems will be able to confirm.

You added light and now he is moving.

Correct but he only moved down in the column a few inches but appears to have a very good hold on the rock. My guess is it’s just gonna be a long drawn out game of cat and mouse and all I can do is observe him and try and make him happy as I can. I mean 4 days ago I thought for sure he was a goner but now I’m wondering if maybe he was just in the verge of death when I got him and he is trying to bounce back.
The only weird thing is it almost looks like he has lost flesh on the rock And even then the flesh is still as red as his foot very concerned but don’t want to stress him by trying to help too much on another note he did take another small piece of shrimp which was a total pain to find raw

@fnlyreefready Im not a nem expert by any stretch. But mine will stay in the oddest of places for weeks or months, and then suddenly go on a walkabout where I think I’ll lose it for sure. But over time it settle back in. My advice is to feed it a small portion every 2-3 days and just let it be.

I’ve also read stories on R2R of nems injuring themselves and over time they heal just fine.

Good luck, and well done on saving it from Petco.

My nem expertise... because it's the only thing I have ever been successful with...
Well...adjust flow and light normally and nem will find its spot. If you keep changing parameters, your anemone will move all the time. Also, anemone can look funky for a few days and back looking healthy. Don;'t force feed, specially large chunks. You can target feed with mysis or brine close to it and it should stick to its tentacles.
Dont go overboard with perfect water chem, mine have always done fine with some phosphate and nitrates (0.25-0.5/25/50)
I agree with everyone, if the anemone is creeping up, probably not enough light. Maybe you can find an affordable LED fixture on amazon. Dont blast the anemone too fast though

I added one bulb to my fixture for 2 days before adding the next to try and slowly ramp it in. He is no longer moving up but has moved back down. He just looks like crap tbh, also I am done trying to feed it for a few weeks as I was advised they really don’t need to eat as often as thought. Some days he looks like he is starting to melt and the foothold releases a little bit. Then I wake up and he is firm again And has a good grasp. Just seems like he is holding on to the last bit of life he has and still hoping for a turn around I also understand there is a huge difference between fresh and salt not to bring this into the mix by saying I’m an expert... but I have never had any issues with ammonia in my ten years of freshwater keeping. I have had salt off and on. In the past I have had some sps corals I received on live rock from a guy I made a few trades with and every coral I got with the rocks thrived until an unforgettable power outage where my fish room dropped to 40 degrees and I had no back up generator to even try and save my fish room at all. Ended up loosing well over 1000 gallons and hundreds and hundreds of my tropical fish I would breed. The problem i am having is maybe I should have just let this guy die as crappy as that sounds because the stress of trying to bring him back from his zombie form is quite irking Because it seems a lot of people have a lot of different methods and options on what he needs. It is quite boggling how these animals live and move but I feel the need to try and help him due to me need to try and help sick and injured animals.

now that I’m getting some time to look again there are 2 very distinguished feet below him and he may just be splitting. The lesion I have been questioning for days has now come full circle off one side of his mouth and he appears to be trying to tear himself away from it holy mother does it look nasty.
Edit: there also appears to now be 2 mouths

Amazing

I’m honestly in awe and even tho he was so close tonight to splitting he Again withdrew Into a rock I’ve nevertheless been left speechless with this animal yet again. I figure within The next few days he will surly have his clone if he does not parish trying to to spawn. All the while my clowns are spawning in a different spot in the back of the tank Honestly the most awing experience I’ve had with any tank watching everything thrive.

If you're looking for fairly inexpensive lights, BRS just did a thing on the Reefbrite XHO strips and they seem pretty capable of growing lights.

I appreciate that man ! I’ve been watching and putting back life is just rough right now I have some more zoas on the way maybe I could trade some designer zoas in the future for some better lights
