So I just ran some tests:
Alkalinity = 8.2
Calcium = 440
Magnesium = 1480
Nitrate = 2.5
Phosphate = .08

Everything looks okay but my magnesium has been very high the past few months. Not sure if lowering it is worth my time or not. Would love to hear some other opinions about what you keep your magnesium at?

Thanks!

Shouldn't be a problem :) Mine has climbed upwards of 1500 with no ill effects.

No, it's not harmful. I always keep mine over 1400, up to 1500. Elevated magnesium can be helpful in several ways. First, adequate to high magnesium is a major factor is avoiding excess abiotic precipitation of calcium carbonate. Second, an elevated magnesium level will suppress some forms of algae growth. Third, elevated magnesium is sometimes used for certain kinds of fish illnesses, although whether this one actually works I'm not sure.

I have heard snails tend to not like it. But dont know how true that is. But mine is at 1540 right now.

This is true, I have seen some snail die off when I've had it very high in the past. At 1500 it shouldn't be an issue, around 2000 you'd see more potential problems.

I for some reason have a very very high mortality rate with snails. They do fine in qt but once in my tank they barely move from the spot I drop them and die off. I have given up on them.

Do you acclimate them?

Yeah for 30 to 60 minutes. Weird thing is I use display water to set up my qts. Unless Spionid/Chaetopterid worms stings them to death. Which I haven't heard of. Plus don't want to thread hijack.
