Is hyposalinity still a effective treatment for ich?

My angelfish and puffer are in the early stages of ich while in quarantine and only have a couple of spots. I want to start treatment right away but I have heard that hyposalinity is not as effective now because many strains of ich have become resistant. Is this true? Should I use copper or some othe medication instead?

Hypo can still work.

TTM works well for ich, as does copper or chloroquine phosphate.

My preference is copper. You could try hypo first and if it isn’t successful you could then move to a copper treatment. Hypo is less invasive, I just don’t prefer the method due to the fact it doesn’t treat velvet. Taking the time and effort to treat fish can be quite a task so I’d rather just knock it out up front with one shot. I know not everyone chooses to treat prophylactically. It really boils down to your risk tolerance.

I don’t have a ato just yet for the qt. I have the level marked though. Would it still work?

It can still work, you just have to be extremely vigilant so salinity does not rise above your target level. Not even for a minute.

I have one in my nano. Is it possible to switch it over to the qt for a little bit without transferring ich to my display tank later

As long as you sanitize everything really well before you go back to the nano it should be fine. Technically if hypo is successful it would be a non issue anyway.

About 32 gallons. No waves either just a sponge filter for surface agitation

I did hypo in a 55 gal with manual morning and evening top offs. I checked salinity almost daily and didn't detect any swings.

Now that I'm trying to raise salinity back up, what's the best way?

That's what I thought too, but I think it will take weeks. According to the calculator on Hazma's Reef, I will have to do 14 5 gal water changes with 40ppt water - approximately - to raise the salinity by 2 ppt /day to 35 ppt.

That's a lot of water changes! Wondering if anyone knows an easier method.
