Hard to tell from pics. The base is deep purple. Some of the polyps are starting to turn green rest are still brown. Two weeks ago this piece was completely brown. Let me know what you think. Also is there a way to figure out if it is the GARF Purple Bonsai?

It's not a encrusting monti
But don't know if it is a garf or not should look nice ether way :)

It doesn't look like to me, mine has never had brown polyps. My piece has had varied colors, from deep purple to pale brown, but the polyps were always bright green.

Well it is never completely brown, always had some purple.... I think you can take Purple Bonsai off the list. Purple unknown, growth form is right, but mine has green polyps on the bottom, and white on the top.

Well it is tabling. Now I have another question. I do not know a lot about SPS but yesterday it basically looked like all the polyps threw up. They all turned white and stringy? Thanks for the link dknuckles. That is almost spot on what it looks likes.

Always glad to help:bigsmile:

Going to be a great piece it looks like........

GARF? The only real way to see is to find a confirmed GARF, and put them together....if they burn one another, kill one another they are not.

If they merge and grow together they are.....DNA doesn't lie.

Lineage and naming is very controversial, people often see the bad side of it in fakes and getting ripped off paying too much, etc...

The part I embrace is the trust and networking that develops....believe it or not this is still a small community and ones name and reputation matters......this is where that comes into play.

Had I been looking for a "GARF" I would have sought out reefers in my community or network I trust and respect and asked them....if not go to a reputable dealer who is more of a hobbiest that has integrity. If people demand and do that, are in it for the right reasons.....then the whole lineage thing works........

not trying to go off topic, but when I see questions of "Is this a GARF?" makes me wonder what makes you think it is or what makes a "named" coral what it is......

as most don't understand.

To find out "what" it is, if it is a named coral.....go to the source? Where did you get it? Where did they get it?

These are really questions people need to ask, then VERIFY before paying good money on something....if not for the simple task of doing that research before you buy a piece........but in order that you don't accidently pass it off as something else in effect a "coral laundering" much like "money laundering"

FYI is all this is, not going to debate this issue as people get up in arms about the LE/Named thing.....just trying to help those who do care.
