Hello,
Is it just me that constantly thinks I need to change something in my tank because my results are nowhere near what I see on this site? I am not talking about fish or corals, I mean lighting, pumps, more or better reactors or some supplements? I can't leave this poor tank alone and after two years it looks like I am just setting it up. Maybe we can start a treatment group and I'll start, Hello my name is Larry and I can't stop messing with my tank...

Yeah, but that's a good thing. You fiddle with it all and tweak things while your interest is highest and then when your interest in the hobby starts to fall you just let everything grow. When you get reinvigorated you make changes again and upgrades and then the cycle repeats.

Do any of you feel you stunt your tanks progress, by always messing with it? I just feel I should be a lot further along, I only have 4 fish and 2 corals. I just feel it is not ready so I wait and put off a coral or fish purchase to get another pump or to totally rearrange my aquascapes which I also am never happy with.

I don't feel so alone anymore, it just eats at me when I see some gorgeous tank with amazing fish and corals growing out the top of the aquarium with every color on the chart and then there me trying to keep aptasia alive.. I have to try their method.

Test your alkalinity everyday and track it. Make your own DIY supplements and hand dose them when needed. Don't use a controller and test everything once a week. Clean the glass every other day.
Set a schedule to clean your pumps once a month. Test your RO/DI carbon blocks once a month for chloramines. Make your own frozen food. Set up your own rotifer culture and grow them for you copepods. Bred fish.........etc,etc........get involved with your local club........

There is a TON of things to do that can help your tank and keep you busy as heck, that don't involve messing with the tank. Expand your world!

I think in general our tanks do better when we keep our hands out of them as much as possible...but most of us aren't very good at just watching it grow. LOL

^^ I agree. We are always gonna tinker with our tanks, but be patient and allow enough time to pass to see if the change you have implemented was for the better.

I'm the opposite. after almost 20 years I know what I want and besides adding a new coral I didn't need and slowly upgrading equipment I just sit back and enjoy it. if it isn't broke don't fix it or you just might break it.

I need to learn my lesson! My tank is perfectly fine...until I try to get too involved!

Many problembs can be caused by HITS yes.
Hands In Tank Syndrome.

Not a day goes by that I don't get "caught" with my hands in the tank by my husband. Usually he just mutters "watch out guys, she's back" and moves on. Lol.
