Is it normal for a fish to go missing after adding them to the tank?

I added a ~1.25 inch hi-fin ray goby to my tank to pair with a pistol shrimp that is under the rockwork somewhere on Saturday. He swam around the tank, and I didn't see him start hiding in any caves. I haven't seen him since that Saturday night, and it is Wednesday morning now. I have a pretty tight fitting lid and have not seen any crispy fish laying around, and I have also poked around the rockwork with a flashlight trying to see any glimpses of the goby, to no avail. I haven't seen the pistol shrimp since I added him almost 2 months ago, but I hear him a couple of times a week. Any suggestions or advice?

Yes I have had disappear and found one in the overflow. And just hiding and don't come out

They are pretty good at hiding. My dartfish seems to enter another dimension when he hides.

I have shined a flashlight into the overflow as well. It doesn't help that the tank is much larger than the average hi-fin ray goby tank at 60g!

Dude I just found my watchman goby about a week ago without seeing him for a week and a half so I wouldn’t worry.

The goby eventually showed up after over 2 weeks after adding him. He only shows himself in the late evening but I'm sure he will continue to get more comfortable!
