Is it normal for a hammer to shrink up during splitting?

I've had this bi colored hammer for six months or more. It's tripled in size since getting it. It has been so happy in my little nano reef and has been thriving. It usually puffs up all over. I noticed last week that it was splitting, it became oval and pinched in the middle. Today I saw a bubble on the new forming head, but the entire coral has shrunk in on itself. Is this normal behavior? The small head is the new forming. All the prams are in proper range. I'm due for a water change Saturday. And I use rodi water. I also dose acropower (aminos), and live phyto twice a week.

I haven't changed my water yet. I might not do it until tom, I'm feeling bad due to a sinus infection. This is what it looks like today

About once a month mine shrivels up into its base, then after the 3 red time it did it I noticed every time this happened some brown stringy stuff coming out of all the heads. Shortly there after it slowly fully expands back to its usual size. From what I witnessed I came to the conclusion that is was pooping!k

Something went wrong. Sad to say it's not going to make it. It has necrosis and not doing well at all. I did place it in my 85 gallon reef, and it didn't help. It think it's just time to break down my nano (25 gallon) and put a bigger tank up.
