Is it normal for Nassarius snails to disappear?

I just added a very small cuc to my first tank, a couple of hermit crabs and a Nassarius snail.

The snail burrowed under the sand immediately after I put him in. I can’t even see his siphon sticking out anywhere since I have added him to the tank about 3 days ago. Is this normal behaviour? I know they burrow and dig through the sand but this one has completely vanished without a trace

you have fish in there you feed? if not did you add a little bit of food. hermit crab may have killed him and flow buried the extra shell. then agin he may turn up.

Yes they hide in sand and generally come out at evening or in presence of food. These also need Good acclimation when introduced

I have a pair of clowns in there so there should be extra food lying around. The hermits are really active and seem to be doing great

My nassarius really only come out at feeding or night, but not always. Most likely it’s fine.

Drop a few sinking pellets on the sand near the front glass. Any snails in the sand should come out. This is how I count how many I have in my systems.

I see Nessy, my Nassarius snail, maybe once every other day. Rarely if ever do I see her tube visible above the sand bed. I wouldn’t sweat it too much.

Didn't see mines for 2 weeks and 1 day they popped up. I have 2 of them. This reminds me that I have a horseshoe crab in there also. Haven't seen him in 2 months!!!

They're tough and breed like crazy in my tanks but I also hardly ever see them. I'd try a flashlight at night. Their speed and ability to hide in the sand should make them difficult for a crab to get.
