Is it OK to mount something on this? (stand)

My tank is 60" long. The stand is the one that came with the tank. The two wooden supports in the pic support the length of the stand/tank. Is it OK to drill into them and mount something to them? I want to mount a uv to them. I was considering just using two screws and hanging a bracket on there so Maintenance is easier. Bad idea or ok? The alternative option is I make my own free standing platform.

There should be no problem to predrill then put a screw into one or both of those legs. It won't change the structural integrity of the leg unless you're talking a very large hole.

Thanks, what about hanging something off of it that's somewhat heavy? (uv)

I could put some supports under the bracket to reduce the load on it

How heavy is your uv unit? Can you link it?

Just make sure you drill a small pilot hole fist so you don't crack the wood along the grain

You'll have no issue supporting that device on the legs. Predrill the pilot hole and use an appropriate sized fastener. I don't see any reason for secondary supports. if the mounting holes are not adjustable on your UV unit and it doesn't perfectly align against your legs, you can cut a strip of plywood wide enough for your uv unit to attach to then mark and centrally mount your plywood to the legs..

Thanks, that's exactly what I was going to do. Attach the uv to a piece of plywood. Then unmount the uv from the plywood and mount the plywood perfectly on the stand so it just hangs off of it like a picture so it can be removed easily. I just wanted to double check my idea. Thanks!
