Is it possible for a coral to mimic?

I have a branching hammer and an octospawn that are touching. I noticed that the branching hammer looked like it was changing its shape and even color on the side that is touching the octospawn and it's beginning to look like the octospawn. Is this even possible?

I think those might be scars from coral wars maybe? I had a similar issue happen
to a leather. If it's not a scar, then I'd say yes to your question.

Well.. they don't seem to be. And I've had them next to each other for about a month and a half. Ive only just noticed this...
