I want the simpilist tank possible...What are some ideas for a 40b that I can keep SPS in with out a sump and all the fancy gadgets..

So how runs a sumpless tank? What equipment do you use?

I have been running a 90 gallon sumpless for a year. It have a skimmer and run Ecobak through a reactor and that's it. I do 10 to 15 percent water changes every 2 weeks, and I manually dose 2 part.

As stated it can be done. Myself, I would run a HOB skimmer and an HOB carbon reactor. Both would be cheap for a 40B.

Hob skimmer or keep faithful to water changes... With the combo of the 2 you shouldn't have any problems...

Thanks guys......I am planning on running 3 reactors and a skimmer...gfo,carbon and maybe pellets.

Mike - That should do it. Keep the photos coming from the build.

I'm running a simple 40 breeder reef tank, without a sump/fuge. I have a Hamilton 250W Pendant hanging above it and a SWC MiniHOT skimmer. 2 Modded MJ1200s for flow. I do a lil' larger water changes than I would, if I had a sump/fuge. This tank was recently re-set up. It used to be predominately SPS, ran the same way, and will be again.

Thanks Gary I will....I want a simple tank for a pair of naked clowns and nems....I have another 40b that I am thinking of dividing in half for a coup[le more clown pairs to see if I can get them to breed but that Idea is on the back burner for awhile

I would love to see some pics....got a build thread link I am also going to check out that skimmer you are using.

on a small tank you dont need anything fancy! just weekly water changes and good flow!
this the reason we spend the $$ on LR and sand for our tanks. they are a filter

I have run my 120 reef, sumpless without a skimmer or anything for mechanical filtration for a few years without a problem. but I only have 6 fish, all of them are small and I dont overfeed
the reason for all the fancy gadgets used on reef tanks is because we overstock our tanks, or stock them to soon.
it takes me about 3 months for a tank to reach a point where it is "stable" but it takes 9 months (give or take) for a tank to reach a point where it will stable enough there wont be any "cycles" that will be dangerous for livestock. of course constant testing is necessary. but this is the norm for me.

Thanks mainreefer for the info....I will keep that in mind......all I really want in the tank is a couple clowns a yellow coris wrasse....and maybe a few gobies.

I ran a 40 breeder for many year’s sump less with a Deltec MCE600. Nice skimmer and had a chamber for media like phosphate removers and carbon. I had a tunze top off on the tank and thats it for equipment.

Thanks dave.....keep the comments coming guys I am all ears about a simple setup.....sound like it is very doable and successful.

I keep sps in a 24 gal nano with water changes and kalk top off, using 4x 24 watt TEK fixture, great colors but a little slow with the gorwth but as I always say I'll take the colors over the growth anyday

If you have reactors and a skimmer what's the difference??? all a sump does is a add a little extra water and hide the equipment... Fuge wise I have never ran one in years lol... So get on it man I'm waiting to see haha...
Ps. Glad to see ya back around..;)
