Is it possible to breed clams

It is a whole lot more tougher than that... Your going to have to have different types of plankton to feed it during the different stages. More people can elaborate.. There is thread already on it on what it takes. Too much for me to even comprehend.

the only time you can breed clams are probably in large scale aquaculture. very rare to have a clams release sperm and eggs in aquarium, create the larvea, getting through that stage, feeding them the planktons, and to finally raise them. people do it but ive heard it's really hard. and plus it will take years to grow to maturity and saleable size. places in tropical islands breed clams like in tahiti or something. they have like cement ditches with many clams and they collect sperm and egg, then they grow. the thing is though they use natural seawater so it already has the planktons and all the right chemicals etc...

I have had clams spawn twice in my system. Once after upgrading the display tank, and once during a system crash. Each time I have over a dozen clams some bigger than a foot.

Once one clam spawns, it triggers all the other around it (in this case within my system to start spawning. With over 1000g it turned my system into a green soup. Took days to skim, carbon, filter sock some clarity back to system, and the SPS corals did not take kindly too it.

I have some friends that have had a single clam in their system spawn with no devestating effects, but it still created a mess in a moderately sized aquaria.
