I've got a 4ft tank and have been given a 6ft aquarium for free. They were just using a small illumagic blaze x mini to spot light the center. My 4ft has 4 ai prime hds. Will I be able to use both leds, ie illumagic in center with 2 primes either side.
Illumagic has 3 channel mixer whilst primes have individual led channels. Will I be able to blend them at all or will there be noticeable areas of spectrum variance.
If anyone has experience please share.
Thanks

Set them up using a PAR meter and adjust for the coral you're supporting first and then your preference for appearance.
The short answer, yes, you can mix LEDs. I've got a mix of 2 Viparspectra 165W and 4 300W , 3 Kessil A350WE and 3 A360WE over my 300.

Yes you can mix them.
Will there be visible differences in spectrum? Possibly, as it depends what diodes are in use on each. Only way to know for sure is to try

+1 you will probably see a difference in the particular colors as well as brightness.

Getting lights to turn on and off at the same time will not be easy.
Colors on different lights will make your tank look different.
You will get different results from each light.
Controlling the lights will also be difficult.
I would sell the illumagic and buy two more
AI prime for a total of 6 on your tank

Kessil and Orphek here (360x's & OR2's). No issues at all and they blend really well together. Kessil's are on 8am to 8pm and the Orphek's are on 9am to 7pm. Kessil's give me the coverage and shimmer, the Orphek's give me the pop.
There's another local reefer here that uses the same combo of brands, but flipped. He uses the Atlantik's for the heavy lifting and then uses Kessil's to provide shimmer. To me it makes sense blending different brands, especially when you coalesce their features.
