Is it possible to plumb these two sumps together?

I was just wondering if it is possible to plumb this 100 gallon and icecap 36xl sump together? I have two tanks that will run on the system. Was going to have the overflow from my 90 gallon flood into the 100 gallon sump and my 75 gallon flood into the icecap... What I am wondering is can I drill where the refugium is on the icecap and drill into the middle chamber on the 100 gallon and install 2” bulkheads to connect the two sumps? Juat trying to find a way to utilize both sumps into my system for more water volume and filtration...

Its certainly doable...

You just need to make sure that the point where the water exits from one sump to the other is high enough to get over the baffles of both sumps to the return section. Are you planning on running a single return pump, or two return pumps?

I personally would T' off the return line and send one line to each sump rather then drilling my sumps. Use a ball-valve on the non-emergency drain to control how much goes to each sump, and that way you can set one up to get more flow, and the other to act more like a refugium! Downside of course you would need two return pumps...

It is totally possible with bulkheads as long as you place the o-ring between the two sumps or better yet use two. Second advice above as well

I have 2 return pumps... was planning on doing that anyway... only issue is if the power goes out or something if the icecap will overflow

I don't really see any issues overflowing, if you think there might be you can always cut some teeth into the baffles (or trim it shorter) of the 100 to lower the water level a bit. Could you use the return section of the ice cap to drill the bulkheads into (Using some pipe if needed)? Just using as much of the sump with flow as possible.

Almost missed it, you don't really have to worry about what height you drill the bulkheads, just realize that the highest bulkhead in your 100 AFTER your bulkheads will set the water height in the Ice cap if it's higher than he bulkheads in the Ice cap. I'm sure you get what I mean lol
