I bought this from a seller on ebay prior to starting my tank i am a couple months in and there is no change, no growth, no death and no color changes. I have never had this before so i have never handled it to know how it should or should not feel. It feels like it may have been made in a 3d printer to me. supposed to be chaeto

what do you mean it feels like it was made in a 3d printer? chaeto should be fairly easy to pull apart, plastic/resin would not be so. If it's not growing, that means it is either lacking flow, light or nutrients. If your N and P aren't elevated, it is unlikely to grow.

I put some chaeto in a bucket and left it there without light for a while and it never changed how it looked, never rotted or grew.

If it was printed, I would expect it to taste like plastic, not alfalfa. Also you can probably floss with it if it was printed?

If water parameters aren't right it will sit there forever and look the same. You can generally tell when its growing when it starts to float up and its producing air bubbles (oxygen). I had to increase the iron in my tank before the chaeto started to grow properly.

No way… to make tha in 3D printer would be super difficult lol, some times chateo takes a while to get use to de new chemistry of a new tank, just be patient use 20 hours of reddish light , make sure there’s some nutrients in the water column and you will soon have to maw the lawn….

When chateo floats and spins it looks great but that’s just fancy and steric, actually chateo doesn’t need to spin…. It can grow with no movement…. Actually my refugium is a very thick block of chaeto and it grows like there’s no tomorrow….

I tossed some that I pulled out of my Fuge and put it in the bin with rocks I was cooking. About 4 months later I did a water change and pulled the rocks out to look at them and the dang Chaeto was still there, green and nearly as I left it.
