Hello reefers,

I have a Bubble Magus Curve Elite 5 skimmer that I would like to install a float switch for apex.

The cup lid already has holes in it but they are not big enough for a float switch to go through. The hole is around 5mm.

Most float switch that I found need an opening at least 8mm.

So my question is, is it ok for this lid to be drilled to widen the hole?

I acquired a skimmer recently via a trade, and he drilled the lid to add a float valve, so I now it can be done. But with acrylic it can be tricky.

Found a video online and he suggest using dish soap as a lubricant on your drill bit.

I drilled mine without and issue, I used a step bit, you may have to drill from both sides with some of these because of the thickness of the lid.

Should be no problem. Keep the bit cool with some water and go slow. Let the drill do the work.

Applying to much pressure and high temp will cause cracking.

and if so happens to crack fixed in couple min ;)
